Noticing the little things
My husband, Danny, and I don’t remember who took the picture of this beautiful butterfly. Chances are I noticed it, and he took the time to carefully capture the photo. That’s one of the many things I appreciate about how our relationship works. I notice things, and he collects the memory with his camera.
I remember the day the butterfly flew into the frame. On a hike while camping, I’d been looking for frogs with my little cousins, Mia and Braden. Heads down eyeballing the water trickling and sometimes flowing over the rocks, we gasped a little when the butterfly floated in. Minutes before her arrival, I’d found a $20 bill, so we were open to miracles beyond our frog spotting, but she still caught us by surprise. I’m thankful to whoever captured that photo and guess I’ll give Danny credit.
One year for our anniversary he put together a collage of photos he’d taken or asked someone to take of the two of us. I remember how sad I’d been feeling the day he gave it to me about something beyond my control. When I opened what he created, I was overwhelmed. There in front of me were little moments during all the trips we’d taken, evidence of the beautiful life we’ve built amidst sorrow and heartbreak. He took the time to capture our little moments…not such a little thing.
What are you taking the time to notice today?
With appreciation for the little things,
Holly
